Have you ever had Jehovah’s Witnesses knock on your door to share their faith? Do you know what they believe? As we seek to share the gospel with Jehovah’s Witnesses, it is vitally important to understand what they believe. In this devotional, Evangelist Chris answers the question, “Are Jehovah’s Witnesses really Christians?”
Like most Christians, Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world, but there is one obvious disagreement between Jehovah’s Witnesses and Christians and that is their view of Jesus Christ. While Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jesus is Secondary to God, Christian’s believe that Jesus is God Almighty!
However, there is one element that challenges the Jehovah’s Witnesses theology and that is the fact that Jesus Christ was worshipped by people. The Old Testament teaches against worshipping anyone other than God. Yet, we see in the New Testament people worshipping Jesus time and time again. If Jesus allowed people to worship Him this would mean He believed He was divine and worthy of our worship, because the Bible tells us that worshipping human beings is forbidden (Exodus 34:14) and worshipping anything or anyone other than God is idolatry (Deuteronomy 5:6). Those who argue that Jesus is not God disregard the clear facts provided in Scripture that not only is Jesus God, he even received worship from His followers (Matthew 2:2, Matthew 2:11, Matthew 8:2, Matthew 14:33, Matthew 28:9-10, Matthew 28:16-17, Luke 24:51, John 9:37-38, Hebrews 1:6). The only way Jesus would have allowed people to worship Him is if He was in fact God.
It is vital to your faith to understand that Jesus was not an ordinary man or angelic being. There is no man that could pay for our sin, only God could offer Himself as our perfect sacrifice. Therefore, the thought of Jesus, the Savior of the world who laid down His very own life so that you and I could experience life and freedom is ignored and disregarded as God is heartbreaking. One of the greatest privileges of being a Christian is knowing and worshipping Jesus. Today, Jesus is offering you an invitation to know Him as God. When you worship Jesus, everything changes. He will satisfy your every need and be your exceedingly great reward. The greatest treasure of this life is knowing Him and being in His presence in awe of who He is. He is worthy of our worship! Hallelujah!
