I hope you’re having a great start to your day today.
Last week on our LIVE broadcast I taught on a key the Lord has shown me from scripture that can help you to “Overcome Every Attack of the Enemy”. Let’s take a few moments this morning to see what the word of God says about how you can be an overcomer, when facing these attacks.
Since I became a Christian and especially since I’ve been in ministry, I have heard countless Christians glorify the enemy with bad theology. They blame a lot of the issues in their life as attacks of the devil, when really many times it’s the consequences for their foolish decisions. Bad theology about how much authority the enemy has in a Christians life can actually make room for attacks, and give him a place in your life. The truth is the enemy has no place in the life of a blood bought, spirit filled Christians life! Yes, when the first Adam sinned he gave the devil authority, but the Last Adam – The Son of God, Jesus Christ – took back that authority, through his death, burial and resurrection! Hallelujah! The devil no longer has authority in your life, unless you give it to Him!”
Ephesians 6:10-17 says, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; ABOVE ALL, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
The bible says that when the enemy comes at us in attack that we are to stand, putting on the whole armor of God! I’ve heard of the practice before of people actually imagining putting on armor before their day starts thinking the imaginary set of armor is how we protect ourselves in spiritual warfare. That is not what Paul is saying to us in this scripture. What he’s saying is that like a soldier would put on armor, you are to daily be aware of the TRUTH of the gospel; be conscious of the fact that your RIGHTEOUSNESS is from God; knowing that you have PEACE with God; and above all that you are walking in FAITH! Knowing and believing these truths that were accomplished through the finished work of cross is our defense against every attack of the enemy!
When going through this passage, the Lord showed me something very powerful. Verse 16 says, “ABOVE ALL, taking the shield of faith.” Paul said above all, have faith! This is how you overcome every attack of the enemy – by faith! As you take up that shield of faith you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the enemy – not a couple of the darts, not some or most of the darts – but all! You are called to live your life by faith, believing that the enemy no longer has any authority to successfully attack you! Stand in faith my friend and overcome every attack of the enemy!
You may be wondering “how can I walk in faith?” “What does that look like?” “How can I know if I’m walking in faith?” Well the Bible says, “And since we have the same spirit of faith according to what is written, ‘I believed, and therefore have I spoken,’ we also believe, AND THEREFORE SPEAK.” (2 Corinthians 4:13) My friend, faith speaks! You’re walking in faith when you begin to confidently speak out what you believe! When speaking with Saul about facing off with Goliath in Israel’s defense, David said to Saul, “God will deliver me out of the hand of the Philistine.” Then as he stood against Goliath, he said out loud to that enemy giant, “I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts… This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands!” When the devil himself came to Jesus to tempt Him in the wilderness, he spoke back to the enemy with the Word of God saying, “It is written.” This is how you use our faith, by speaking! Don’t tell God how big your problem is, tell your problem how big your God is! Speak the word of God to every problem in your life and you will see the breakthrough in Jesus’ Name!
I want to encourage you this morning, to stop believing the lie that the enemy has such a place in your life to attack you at will. Begin to memorize scripture and learn to speak it out by faith in the face of every adversity! Know who you are, and Whose you are, and begin to speak the language of faith! If you have sickness in your body, declare by faith “by His stripes I am healed!” If you have financial needs in your life, declare by faith “My God shall supply every need!” If you’re struggling with a habitual sin, declare by faith “He who the Son sets free is free indeed!” If you’re dealing with accusations of guilt, shame or condemnation, declare by faith “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus!” If the enemy comes at you with any form of attack, declare by faith “Greater is He who is within me than he that is in the world!” Amen! God’s word in your mouth is as powerful as God’s word in His mouth! Begin to speak it out – by faith – and overcome every attack of the enemy in Jesus Name!
Jesus paid an ultimate price for you to live a life of victory. The battle has been won and the war is over – our part is to now enforce that victory. Jesus won it all! We no longer fight FOR victory, we fight FROM victory! “This is the victory that has overcome the world, EVEN OUR FAITH!” (1 John 5:4)
